Craftable armor/weapons have up to 3 quality levels, which can be discovered through Reverse Engineering. Going up a quality level will add a prefix to the name of the item, and add a secondary stat. The 2nd level has 3 variations (def/crit/power), and the 3rd level has 5 variations (presence/accuracy/shield/alacrity/surge) per 2rd level variation, for 15 3rd level variations in total.
On top of that, a crit craft of any item will make a special version of that item with an Augment slot, and add a suffix to the name of the item. So there's 38 different versions per base craftable item. (base version = learned from a schematic or the trainer)
Revese Engineering an item gives you a chance to discover a schematic for a random variation of the next quality level of that item.
